Rosacea is a non-contagious inflammation of the face that makes the skin appear flushed and red. It commonly affects people over 30 years and unfortunately, symptoms tend to get worse with age. Most commonly, rosacea will present with flushing across the nose and cheeks from enlarged capillaries under the skin. It can cause some swelling, burning feeling or dry and flaky patches.
Acne is an inflammatory condition affecting the hair follicles and sebaceous glands of the skin. Normally, old cells lining the follicles fall away and are carried to the surface by sebum. If excess sebum is produced, it combines with the cells to form a plug and inflammation is triggered, causing a whitehead or blackhead. If bacteria multiply, they cause the follicle to swell and pus to form, leading to pimples, pustules, nodules and cysts.
Photoaging is premature ageing of the skin, at a deeper structural level than natural ageing. It may include deep wrinkles, loss of elasticity, rough skin with fine red veins, patchy discoloured areas, freckles and age spots.
